With turnabout being fair play and all, it’s only right that we give Ford’s Excursion equal time, with a collection of 10 reports about the massive sport-utility rig that were originally published in Truckin, TruckTrend, Diesel Power, and 8-Lug magazines.
Founded on a Super Duty F-250 chassis, the Excursion was 19 feet long, 6-feet, 8-inches wide, and 77.2 inches tall. As overall dimensions go, it was the giant in the segment by far, and throughout the big rig’s 1999-2006 production run, 5.4L gas and 7.3L and 6.0L diesel V-8, as well as a gasoline 6.8L V-10 were its only powerplants.
Name Game: Ford Protects “Excursion” for What???
Today, although Excursion has a large following (especially diesel-powered models), the SUV ultimately doesn’t have the same huge fan base its Chevrolet nemesis celebrates. We think they’re cool, and based on the custom creations that have come from them, other enthusiasts do, too.
